Website Terms
What these terms cover
These are the terms for our website, not for our product. They cover electe.net and the public sites we run alongside it: the newsletter pages, The ELECTE Quarterly at quarterly.electe.net, the radio page, the media hub, the newsroom and the help centre. We call all of that "the site" below.
The application our customers log into at platform.electe.net runs on a separate agreement — our Terms of Service. Where the two disagree about the platform, the Terms of Service wins.
The site is operated by ELECTE S.R.L., Via Montenapoleone 8, 20121 Milano (MI), Italy. VAT IT 12771670960. Milan Companies Register, REA MI-2682918. Share capital €211,000.00, fully paid.
Using the site means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the site.
Who these terms are for
The site is written for people acting in a professional or business capacity: customers, prospective customers, press, candidates and readers. Reading it requires no account and costs nothing.
Two things involve signing in. Comments on articles, where they are open, need a newsletter membership. The admin area is for our own staff.
You must be 18 or older to use the site, subscribe to the newsletter or post a comment. This is stricter than Italian law requires, where a 14-year-old can consent to an information-society service.
What you can do with the content here
Read it, link to it, quote it with attribution, print it, send it to a colleague.
The text, images, layout, code, and the ELECTE name and logo are ours or our licensors'. Republishing our articles in full, reproducing a substantial part of the site elsewhere, or presenting our material as someone else's needs our agreement in writing first. Where you are allowed to copy something — an excerpt, a chart from a report, a photograph from the press kit — keep the credit and the copyright notice on it.
Automated access is governed by our robots.txt. Search-engine crawlers are welcome, and so are AI crawlers: GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended are allowed there deliberately, and we publish a guide for assistants at electe.net/llms.txt. What robots.txt disallows — the admin area, the API paths, the search results pages — is off limits, as is crawling fast enough to degrade the site for other people.
Our name and logo
ELECTE® is a registered trademark of ELECTE S.R.L. The word mark is registered across 54 countries and territories — the European Union in full, together with the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, South Korea and twenty-one others — principally in classes 9, 35 and 42, under international registration no. 1769409 and the national registrations that flow from it. Some applications are still pending. Where the mark is not registered, our unregistered rights apply.
Press and analyst use
Journalists, analysts and anyone writing about ELECTE may use the ELECTE name, the ELECTE logo and the images in our press kit to report on us or refer to us. You do not need to ask first, and there is nothing to sign.
Three conditions:
- do not alter the logo — no recolouring, stretching, cropping into it or adding elements to it;
- do not use it in a way that suggests we endorse your product, your service or your opinion;
- take the files from the press kit in the newsroom rather than lifting them off a page.
For anything beyond coverage — partnerships, co-branding, putting our marks on your own materials, or anything that implies an endorsement — write to press@electe.net.
Nothing here narrows what the law already allows you to do.
What you must not do
Do not:
- use the site to break the law, or break the law in using it;
- try to reach parts of the site that are not open to you — the admin area, other people's accounts, or our APIs beyond what is published;
- probe, scan or test the security of the site without our written agreement;
- interfere with the site or the people using it: denial of service, malware, deliberately overloading forms, comments or search;
- send us, through a form or a comment, anything unlawful, defamatory, hateful, or that infringes someone else's rights;
- impersonate anyone, or misrepresent who you are or who you work for;
- collect personal data from the site in bulk — the names of our staff, our authors, or people who comment.
Things you send us
Forms
The contact and demo forms ask for your name, your company and a message. Give us accurate information. Submissions are stored on our own systems and forwarded to our CRM so that someone can reply, as described in our Privacy Policy. The forms carry automated abuse checks. Sending a form does not create a contract, does not commit us to anything, and does not oblige us to reply.
Subscribing to the newsletter
Signing up is double opt-in: we email you to confirm, and nothing is sent until you confirm. Every email carries an unsubscribe link and it works immediately. The newsletter is the only bulk email we send.
Comments on articles
Where comments are open on an article, posting one requires a newsletter membership. Your first comment is held until we have looked at it; once you have a comment approved, later ones appear straight away.
What you write stays yours. By posting it you give us permission to publish it on the site, store it and keep showing it next to the article. We can edit, refuse or remove any comment. To have a comment of yours taken down, write to hello@electe.net.
Reviews
We do not collect customer reviews on this site. Review invitations go out through independent review platforms, which run their own moderation and have their own terms with you. Where we show reviews on our pages, we choose which ones appear and publish them as they were written, though on our non-English pages you may be reading a translation. If you wrote a review we are showing and would rather we did not, write to hello@electe.net and we will take it down.
Ideas and feedback
If you send us a suggestion about the site or the product, we may use it freely, anywhere, without paying you or crediting you. Do not send anything confidential through a public form or a comment. If you have something confidential to discuss, say so and we will find a proper channel.
Links and embeds
The site links out to places we do not run, and a few of the footer links leave it entirely — the status page, the API documentation and the customer billing portal are separate services with their own terms. We do not control them and do not endorse them by linking.
Embedded content is not loaded until you ask for it. Videos, the radio player and our founder profile badges are placeholders until you press the button; only then is the frame or the script created. Until you do, none of those companies receives a request from your browser, including your IP address. Once you do, that company's terms and privacy policy apply to what follows.
What we do and do not promise about the site
We publish the site carefully and correct what we find wrong. We do not promise that everything on it is accurate, complete or current. Prices, product capabilities, roadmap statements, job postings and figures quoted in articles are right as far as we know on the day they are published, and they change. Nothing on the site is an offer, and nothing on it is advice — legal, financial, technical or otherwise.
We do not promise the site will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. We can change it, move it, or take parts of it down without telling you first.
Most of the site is published in 21 languages, and those translations are produced with machine assistance. Where a translated page and its English original say different things, the English one governs.
Where our liability ends
We are liable for what Italian law does not permit us to exclude. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our fault, for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, nothing here removes a right the law gives you.
Beyond that: the site is free to use, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising out of your use of it, or your inability to use it — lost profits, lost business, lost data, or the cost of getting the same information somewhere else. We are not liable for what third-party sites, embeds or services do, or for content someone else posts on the site.
Where a financial cap can lawfully apply, our total liability to you for everything arising out of the site is limited to €100. This does not affect the liabilities in the first paragraph, which we do not limit.
If you use the site in a way these terms do not allow
We can remove a comment, close a newsletter membership or block access when someone is using the site abusively or unlawfully. We do not have to give notice first, though we will normally explain what happened if you ask.
If you were acting in the course of a business and your misuse of the site causes a claim against us, you will cover the reasonable costs of dealing with it. This does not apply to consumers.
Privacy, cookies and your data
The site runs on our own servers in Nuremberg, Germany. Analytics and site search are self-hosted on the same estate: the page-view counter is cookieless and sets no identifier, and search queries go no further than us.
What we do with personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy, and what is put on your device is set out in our Cookie Policy. Where those documents and these terms disagree about personal data, those documents win.
Accessibility
We build the site against WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Every page carries an accessibility panel in the footer that switches on larger text, increased contrast and reduced transparency, and the setting is remembered in your browser rather than on our servers.
Our accessibility statement records what we have achieved and where we fall short. If something on the site blocks you, write to accessibility@electe.net. We acknowledge within five working days and tell you what we intend to do within twenty; where a fix will take longer, we get you what you were after another way in the meantime.
The language these terms are written in
These terms are published in English only, and so are our privacy policy, cookie policy and the rest of our legal documents. The English text is the only version, and it governs. The rest of the site is translated; these pages are not.
Governing law and where disputes go
These terms, and any dispute arising out of them or out of the site, are governed by Italian law. The courts of Milan, Italy have jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer, that does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in, and you may still bring proceedings in the courts of your own country of residence — and can only be sued there.
Changes to these terms
We change these terms when what the site does changes. The date below is the last change. If a change matters, we will say so on the site. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version.
